Sky High: Geoge Ferris’s Big Wheel
Written by Monica Kulling
Illustrated by Gene Barretta
Ages: 5  - 8
Grade Level: K – 3

I love this story! It’s an easy biography about the invention of the Ferris Wheel. Would you believe George got the idea as a kid, from a big waterwheel? He grew up, became an architect and builder, but it took the 1892 Chicago World’s Fair to make it happen. The committee wanted something incredible but didn’t believe in George or his idea. George didn’t quit. He funded the project himself, with some help from his friends. When the fair opened, everything was ready, except the cars. They weren’t attached, but when they were, the ride was a huge success…264 feet tall, 2,100 riders at a time! Great job, George! Thanks for your Sky High Ferris Wheel!

The Composer is Dead
Written by Lemony Snicket
Illustrated by Carson Ellis
Music by Nathaniel Stockey
Ages:4  - 8
Grade Level: K – 5

This is the story of musical murder mystery. I know…amazing! A composer is dead, and an investigator must question each member of the orchestra. He starts with the violins and ends with the percussion section. Every musician has a motive, and an alibi. But the truth comes out as it always does. Read this book to find out who did it. Then play the CD so you can investigate the orchestra yourself!

Review of Shake a Leg, EGG!

Shake a Leg, Egg!
Written and Illustrated by Kurt Cyrus
Ages: 2 - 8
Grade Level: P – 3

Spring is all about eggs and chicks, and so is this book. A family of geese are waiting for their last egg to hatch. The pictures are beautiful, and so are the words. Kurt used 131. I know, I counted! It’s hard to write short, and Kurt must have super-powers to write one with only 131 words. WOW!

Whenever I read or write, I find a comfy chair with a great view.  I get my favorite drink, stretch out, and let the words take me away.
